Period of Experimentation of Sunday Mass times: The four churches of Poole have been taking part in six months of experimentation with their Sunday Mass times. This period has now come to an end and at a recent meeting of the PUSG it was agreed that due to numbers attending, space, and there being only three Priests now in Poole, the Mass times for Our Lady of Fatima, St. Joseph’s and St Mary’s would remain as they are for the time being. However, due to the numbers attending St Anthony’s Broadstone, it was agreed that the Saturday evening Vigil Mass at 5.30pm would be reinstated, as long as Fr Collins was able to manage this. It was recognised that this remains not an ideal option but at least in the short term it would be of benefit. The 5.30pm Saturday Vigil Mass at St. Anthony’s would begin again from Saturday 11th February. If you have any queries do contact a member of the PUSG or Father Collins. |

IT IS VITAL THAT YOU WRITE TO YOUR MPs URGING THEM TO OPPOSE THE FALCONER RECOMENDATIONS ON ASSISTED DYING. The Falconer Report has been published but nothing has changed. Everything in the “Facts Dignity in Dying Will Not Tell You” is still absolutely valid. The Report repeats exactly the same claims and demands as the euthanasia lobby has been promoting for years. It is simply another step in the same campaign which has already twice lost the vote in Parliament by a substantial majority. Click on this link to read what RIGHT TO LIFE have to say about the report findings,

Friday Penance – Penance, which is part of our Christian witness as we identify with Christ on the cross, focuses on Friday, the day of the death of the Lord. The Bishops wish to remind the Catholics of England and Wales of this commitment as a stable part of their Catholic identity. So we have re-established the practice of abstaining from meat on Fridays. Those who cannot, or choose not to, eat meat as part of their normal diet are invited to abstain from some other food they normally take. This precept comes into effect on 16 September, which marks the anniversary of Pope Benedict's visit to us. |

Developing a Vision of Catholic Life in Poole: A Message from the PUSG – As you know, the four Poole parishes are working together to promote Catholic life in Poole and to prepare for the day when we will have fewer priests. In 2010, following completion of the questionnaire by our parishes’ parishioners in 2009, the Poole Unit Steering Group (PUSG) started work on a Development Plan to provide a clear sense of direction. This Plan is an on-going and ‘developing’ process, so we have decided to document a snapshot of the Plan as it stood at the end of 2010 and make it available to our parishioners. There is nothing startling in the Plan, but it is interesting reading (we believe). As it is 24 pages long, there are just a few copies available at the back of church for you to ‘read and return’. It is also available on this website (Click on the PUSG button on the right hand side and then on 2010 Development Plan). Further hard copies are available for you to borrow from the office.
St Anthony’s Consultation Group - Minutes of the most recent meeting, which includes a briefing on the proposal for a four Poole Parishes Youth Worker, is available in the ‘Minutes’ folder on the table in the church. |
